Hello everyone, and welcome to Retrounite, which we hope will become a new home-away-from-home for you fine folks who love and appreciate all things retro.
In these pages, you’ll find a variety of articles on all things retro. Our main focus will likely be video games — at least initially — but we also want to make sure we take in some of the most fun elements of retro popular culture, too. Nothing is truly off the table in terms of what we’re planning to cover — so if there’s something you’d like to see us explore further, please be sure to let us know!
Here’s what you can expect from the site’s main sections:
Retro Life – News and views on both retro gaming and popular culture. Here you’ll find news stories about exciting retro gaming projects as well as nostalgic looks back at the best TV, movies, books and comics that years gone by had to offer.
Retro Gaming – Self-explanatory, innit? Here’s where we talk specifically about games; while news stories will be kept to the Retro Life section, here we’ll focus on the games themselves — taking an approach that aims to celebrate rather than censure, even when things have moved on a lot in the last few decades!
Community – Any community events, either run by us or that are of particular interest to the broader retro gaming community, will be discussed here. If you have an upcoming event that you’d like people to know about, please be sure to get in touch!
Videos – Video is a big part of online life today, so as well as putting together our own videos when we have the time, we’ll also be featuring the very best retro gaming videos from around the Internet — with full credit to the original creators, of course. If you have a channel or a particular video you’d like us to check out, please get in touch and let us know!
Guides – Finally, this is where you’ll find features such as buyers’ guides for retro hardware and software, as well as more in-depth guides to playing some of the more obscure, complex or downright weird retro games out there.
We’re a small team for now, so please be patient while we get things rolling — and if you’d like to help us out, few things are better than a lovely share of a favourite article on social media! And be sure to follow us on Twitter!
Here’s just a few of our brand new articles to get you started with the new site, and we look forward to sharing more with you very soon!
10 reasons to own an original Xbox – Why should you own an OG Xbox when the new ones are supposedly so good at backwards compatibility? Read on!
6 multiplayer classics we can’t wait to play on Evercade VS – With the home console variant of the retro wonder-machine on the way, what are we most looking forward to having some friends over for?
5 of the best ’90s first-person shooters – Like a good FPS, but don’t like the way the genre has gone in more recent years? Here’s a bunch of great games from the golden age you can still acquire with ease today.
So you want to collect for… Atari 8-bit? – We kick off a series of buyers’ guides with a look at Atari’s classic lineup of microcomputers.
